I cannot do all the good that the world needs,
But the world needs all the good I can do.

~ Jana Stanfield

As ONE person, I cannot change the world,
but I can change the WORLD of one person.

~ Paul Shane Spear

START where you ARE.
USE what you HAVE.
DO what you CAN.

~ Arthur Ashe

“We have different gifts, according to the grace given to each of us. If your gift is prophesying, then prophesy in accordance with your faith; if it is serving, then serve; if it is teaching, then teach;  if it is to encourage, then give encouragement; if it is giving, then give generously; if it is to lead, do it diligently; if it is to show mercy, do it cheerfully.”

Every one has everything they need RIGHT NOW to give back. We all have a Super Power. And as they say: “With great power, comes great responsibility. ” Together we can make a difference in ourselves, in each other and in our communities.

CASA

CASA

CASA (Court Appointed Special Advocates) of Travis County believes every child who’s been abused or neglected deserves to have a dedicated advocate speaking up for their best interest in court, at school and in our community. To accomplish this, CASA educates and empowers diverse community volunteers who ensure each child’s needs remain a priority in an overburdened child welfare system. When the state steps in to protect a child’s safety because the people responsible for protecting them have not, a judge appoints a trained volunteer advocate to make independent and informed recommendations and help the judge decide what’s best for the child.

Do you have 15-20 hours per month? Become a CASA Volunteer!

CASA volunteers come from every walk of life and share a commitment to improving children’s lives, a willingness to learn and an open mind towards life experiences different from their own. No special education, experience or background is needed. You can speak up for a child when they find themselves in a world filled with social workers, lawyers, judges and courtrooms where life-altering decisions are made on their behalf.

Geri’s Locker FREE Book Stores

Geri’s Locker FREE Book Stores

%

of America's low-income children are growing up in homes WITHOUT BOOKS

Did you know?

Books in the home are the strongest indicator of academic success – surpassing income, parents’ education, family composition and all other factors. Research shows low-income children have fewer books at home than their higher-income peers.

r
Poverty and Academic Performance are inversely related.
The most powerful and highest-impact way to improve the reading achievement of children who are economically disadvantaged is to increase their access to appropriate print materials.

What can we do?

Providing books to children in low-income homes to take and keep at home can help break the link between poverty and poor academic success.

Give Books to Kids

Geri’s Locker FREE Book Stores will allow children and families who are economically disadvantaged to self-select books to take home and keep.

Geri’s Locker will support organizations and facilities with a bookstore by:

  • Supplying bookshelves and books for initial set up
  • Continue to replenish books as needed
  • Upon request, track data to help staff track and reward readers and to evaluate book selections
  • Rotate book inventory to ensure a fresh, selection of books that readers enjoy

Through the generous support of our donors, Geri’s Locker Bookstores are completely FREE!

How can you help?

Educate | Empathize | Engage | Expect

Our mission has always been to strengthen and support marginalized communities while inspiring others to give and do the same.

We are seeing a world-wide galvanizing movement towards addressing the systemic racism that persists in the US. Now more than ever, ears, eyes and hearts are opening up and we have a unique chance to educate, empower and engage others to the cause supporting Anti-Racism.

But how?

“I want to do more but don’t know where to start.”

“I want to say more but I am afraid of saying the wrong thing.”

“What can one person do?”

“What can I do?”

KVUE: COVID Warriors ATX and Geri’s Locker

Check out the story from KVUE about our project…

Author: Hank Cavagnaro

After trying to figure out how they could help, the COVID Warriors ATX group has figured out printing mask extenders would be the best use of their talents.

“We’re not gonna stop. Even if it’s the smallest thing as providing relief to the pressure of their ears, we’re happy to do it.” ~Janan Miller

AUSTIN, Texas — Essential workers who are having to wear masks may know all too well the uncomfortable feeling of the elastic rubbing against your ears.

But some kids here in Austin are hoping they have a solution.

They may look like simple plastic and that’s because, at the end of the day, they are.

“We are producing several hundred a day at this point,” said Janan Miller, whose family is making them.

But it’s what this piece of plastic can do that makes it special. It allows the elastic straps of a mask to come off of the ears, making masks more comfortable when worn for a long period of time.

“It’s really a grass-roots effort, of people of all types.” ~Dionn Schaffner

Life’s Circles

This order was EXTRA special.

Following a social media post from a friend who mentioned her mother, a nurse, was having pain from wearing a mask all day, we reached out and said “We can help with that!”

Dionn: What hospital does your mom work at?
Her: Seton -Main
Dionn: Hey! My mom was a nurse at Seton – Main!
Her: What floor did she work on?
Dionn: Orthopedics – 6 south
Her: My mom says she remembers your Mom! She used to float to the 6th floor sometimes. I just sent her a pic of your mom and she’s sure she worked with her. 🥰 “she was so dynamic and unforgettable. So smart.”

So, now we get to to send these Ear Guards out to some of Geri’s co-workers at Seton.

I can’t think of a better sign from the universe that this project was absolutely the right one to take on during this crisis.

We hear you Mom! 💕

Production Update – April 17, 2020

As of April 17th, Covid Warriors ATX has received requests for approximately 3200 mask extenders, with more requests coming in every day! We have distributed over 1200 in 10 days time and have 10+ volunteers printing around the clock to fill the remaining and future orders.

Thanks to the generous donations we have received and our volunteers offering their time and resources, we are able to distribute these at no cost to those in need.

If you or someone you know can help print or is in need of some of these mask extenders, please reach out! We are here to help.

We appreciate our medical professionals, first responders, essential workers and everyone on the front line. We are here to support you!

Together. Doing More.

COVID-19 Mask Extenders 3D Printing Project

Calling all COVID Warriors!

We have started 3D printing surgical face mask strap relievers to aid our medical professionals, first responders, and many, many more, in an effort to make wearing their masks more comfortable.

We have received stories of ears bleeding from the pressure of wearing surgical masks all day long, for days on end. We realized immediately that the need is great and urgent. We also realized that our children and us are able to contribute from our homes in something that makes a tremendous impact on our heroes.

How can I Help?
If you have access to a 3D Printer, print the extenders at home and then send us an email for pick up and distribution.
